The Swiss Arnold Huggler started his artistic career with a training as a woodcarver in his hometown Brienz. He then moved to Paris in 1922, where he attended the Académie Julian and was taught by sculptors Paul Landowski and Henri Bouchard. A year later, Huggler established his own studio here. In his Paris years, Arnold Huggler played an active role in the artist's life: he was a member of several important associations and committees. In 1936 he returned to Switzerland and settled in Zurich. Huggler rose to prominence as a maker of impressionist animal sculptures. He made various monumental sculptures for public space and he also created animal representations in small format.
