August Roeseler was a genre painter from the Munich School. He was trained by Hermann Lindenschmit at the academy in Munich, a city where he continued to live and work for the rest of his life. He painted many regional, strongly narrative genre scenes with titles such as 'The first snow' and 'The daughter of the landlord'. In his work as an illustrator, his keen observation skills and humour come into their own. He worked for the satirical magazine 'Fliegenden Blätter' and also produced the albums 'Münchner Typen' and 'Skizzen aus dem lustigen München' (1925).
