Nowadays the Amsterdam painter Els Fleer mainly makes abstract work. Often in large format, in strong and bright colours where the structure of the palette knife is often visible. This watercolour was made in 1981, the year in which she has her first exhibition in the VARA studio in Hilversum. The abstraction already presents itself in the performance: shapes and figures are combined in bright pink-red tones. To this day, nature and its surroundings are a source of inspiration. Fleer, who was educated at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, took private lessons with Anton Witsel and is a member of the artists' association 'De Onafhankelijken'.
