Student of the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and the academy in The Hague. In 1902 he settled in the Gooi, first in Laren, then in Blaricum. He mainly painted still lifes in a brightly coloured and finely tuned colorite. His later still lifes are distinguished by beautiful pearl gray tones and a very considered composition.
