Gerard Huijsser received a 'classical' painting training at the Quellinus School and subsequently at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He painted expressionist-inspired landscapes, figures and still lifes, some of which were created during travels to North Africa and the Middle East. His training as a craftsman is reflected in a number of designs for stained glass windows.
