Hein Kever is one of the best known members of the Laren School. Born in Amsterdam, he showed an early talent and via Isaac Israels he became apprenticed to the studio of P.F. Greive. After his death in 1878, Kever settled in the Gooi region, first in Blaricum and later in Laren, where he received advice and guidance from Anton Mauve. During winter he kept a studio on in Amsterdam. The artist is chiefly known for his interiors with figures, peasants and children, spontaneously painted in harmonious colours. These works were admired for their atmosphere, the play of light and colour, especially his distinctive green colour of his grass.
