The Antwerp painter and watercolorist Henri Cassiers is especially famous for his warm-coloured landscapes and marines in Flanders and Zeeland. In addition, like his Belgian contemporaries Edgar Farasyn and Maurice Sys, he had a special preference for the picturesque fishing life of Katwijk and Volendam. Cassiers' watercolours were immensely popular in his day and were widely printed on postcards, posters and tiles. The painter was also known as a book illustrator and he was president of the Societé Royale Belge des Aquarellistes for over thirty years. Museums: including the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels.
