We know little about the painter Ida Molijn, which is probably because female painters in the 19th century were not expected to come to the fore. It is known that she came from a Rotterdam painter family and that her older sister, Marie Molijn, made a name for herself as a flower and fruit painter. Ida concentrated on painting (shown) still lifes and narrative figure pieces. She lived and worked in Rotterdam until 1914, then in The Hague.
