When Wiegers spent a year in Davos for health reasons in 1920, he met Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. A close friendship developed between them, and Wiegers regularly visited his friend in Switzerland until his death in 1938. He continued to visit Switzerland regularly afterward, and painted this view of Tegna there around 1949.
