Johan Hendrik Doeleman is considered to be part of the afterglow of the Hague School. He was born in Rotterdam and worked there from 1877 as a teacher at the Drawing Academy. It was not until 1899 that the painter moved to The Hague. Doeleman was a real Dutch impressionist. His oeuvre mainly comprises polder and dune landscapes and river views in summer and winter.
