Katrin Hoffert (1968, Berlin) transforms private images, often photos and images from the mass media, into timeless performances. She processes the images on the computer, where she removes unnecessary details. She paints the simplified areas of color in mixed techniques, including oil on canvas. It results in paintings in which nothing can be fixed. It looks like people are looking through water. A demonstration or a person transformed into a new image, in which a range of new associations occurs again. Hoffert studied 'Art' at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and has been active as an artist in her hometown since 1996. Her work has previously been featured in, among others: Venice Biennale, PS1 Museum in NY, Martin Mertens in Berlin, Art Museum in Bonn and at Art Cologne.
