The Belgian Louis Pierre Verwee painted finely detailed landscapes with cattle and winter scenes. He received his training at the academy of Kortrijk; afterwards he works in the studio of the animal painter E.J. Verboeckhoven and with the portrait and genre painter Florent Willems. In his early period Verwee paints in the vein of Verboeckhoven romantic landscapes with cows, sheep and donkeys. His winter landscapes, sometimes upholstered by E.J. Verboeckhoven, expose the influence of Andreas Schelfhout and B.C. Koekkoek. He made study trips to France, England, Germany and the Netherlands.
