Louis van Soest was a painter of the Veluwe region in the Netherlands, active in the same circle as Jan van Vuuren and Edzard Koning. His snowy landscapes bear the stamp of a true Dutch impressionist, depicting nature sometimes blanketed in downy white with blue-toned shadows, sometimes suffused with a haze of light. Or he painted the melting snow with rivulets of water and passages of bare earth in greyish-green and brown. Van Soest's pupils included Queen Wilhelmina.
