Max Landsberg trained as a sculptor at the Berlin Academy in the years 1872-75. After that, like many young artists at the time, he made a study trip to Italy. After returning to Berlin, stimulated by the then rector of the agricultural college there, he began to make images of large and small cattle. Eighty of these sculptures were acquired by the Agricultural Museum in Berlin. In addition to animal sculptures, Landsberg also made portrait busts and genre images.
