Nic Jonk is a well-known post-war sculptor, painter and graphic artist. He was inspired by great French artists such as Aristide Maillol, Antoine Bourdelle and Auguste Renoir. Woman, animals and nature, sometimes depicted within mythological or religious themes, were his great sources of inspiration: he made images of nudes, gods, goddesses, (whale) fish, dolphins, swans and horses. Jonk's style is recognizable: sculptures in bronze, with smoothly polished graceful, often voluptuous curves and outreaching gestures. His paintings and graphics show the same exuberance and expressiveness. Jonk also made jewellery, ceramics and objects in glass, steel or perspex. In 1965 he established his own gallery/museum and sculpture garden.
