Provenance: part. bezit België.
From about 1880, the fishing village of Katwijk became a popular destination for foreign artists. One of them was the Belgian impressionist Paul Hermanus. He was educated at the academy of Brussels and then took lessons at the academy 'La Patte de Dindon'. Hermanus preferred to paint atmospheric landscapes, marines and the Flemish and Dutch coast. Depictions of Domburg, Enkhuizen, Dutch interiors and landscapes with windmills testify to his presence in the Netherlands. As well as some beautiful impressionist views of the village of Katwijk and the fisherman's life on the beach.
