about this painting Countless colorful kites float merrily high above Tempelhofer Feld, a popular leisure spot for Berliners until 1922. From the late 19th century onward, people came there to stroll, play football, picnic, and admire the Prussian army's zeppelins. This painting exudes a relaxed atmosphere and lightness. Pauschke paints the vast expanse of Tempelhofer Feld with an impressionistic, loose brushwork, depicting the figures only schematically. Against a backdrop of apartment blocks and smoking factory chimneys, parents and children enjoy flying their kites. The recreational function of this area ended in 1922 with the construction of Tempelhof Airport, which, under the aspirations of the Nazi regime, was to become one of the largest airports in the world. Since the airport's closure in 2008, Tempelhof has once again become a public park. You can once again practice all kinds of sports, eat, and participate in cultural activities. Even kite flying remains as popular as ever, and the dragon kite festival takes place every year in September.
