'Landscape at Montmorency,' Montmorency was a popular haunt of wealthy Parisians, holds a special place in Mondrian's oeuvre as it is his last dated naturalistic painting. It was painted in 1930, a year in which he had already been concentrating for over a decade on his theory of Neoplasticism and the resulting geometric-abstract work. This painting was owned by a Belgian collector until 1952, and from that year onward, it has been in an American private collection. With the acquisition of 'Landscape at Montmorency,' Simonis & Buunk have finally brought Mondrian's last naturalistic painting to the Netherlands, another tremendous asset to our cultural heritage.
