Sculptor, graphic artist, painter and architect Theo Niermeijer has been called 'the iron poet'. Metal was his material: zinc and copper to make etchings, stainless steel and rusted (sheet) iron to create images. He also incorporated metal in his paintings and reliefs. Niermeijer's images are mostly abstract and made from demolition waste. They are three-dimensional, fragile constructions with often poetic or enigmatic titles that make you think. The artist made various trips abroad (Poland, Morocco, Belgium) and was a member of Liga Nieuw Beelden and the Nederlandse Kring van Beeldhouwers (Dutch Circle of Sculptors). His work was purchased by, among others, ABN-AMRO Bank and the municipality of Amsterdam.
