Geertruida Van Hettinga Tromp was a pupil of the painter and art instructor Hendrik Bremmer and, like artists such as Jan Zandleven, Douwe Komter and Henri van Daalhoff, used a pointillist technique in her work. Her still lifes, church interiors and architectural views are devoid of irregular shapes and colour contrasts, offering balanced compositions permeated by a sense of serenity. Light has a special character in her work; it is diffuse, with skies veiled with clouds and no heavy shadows at all.
