Willem Weissenbruch, son and pupil of The Hague School painter H.J. Weissenbruch, with regard to style and subject choice, followed in the footsteps of his father. He painted landscapes with water and harbour and beach scenes, for which he gained inspiration in and around The Hague. He also lived for some time in De Kaag, Noorden, Nieuwkoop and het Gooi. In his characteristic loose and free impressionist style he also painted a number of still lifes.
