Yves Alix's work is a typical example of the post-war Ecole de Paris. His figures and landscapes are in fact a synthesis of a realistic representation of his subject, geometric use of form and a certain lyricism towards the motif. The result is a somewhat angular, balanced composition of areas of color, without depth. Alix took his subjects from everyday life. After 1940 he painted almost exclusively landscapes, especially in Provence, where he lived half the year from 1950. Then the role of color also becomes increasingly important in his work.
