The choice of Mariëtte

Cole Morgan was born in New York, but grew up in New Mexico (USA). He studied English literature, art history and drawing, after which he traveled through Europe in the 1970s to view the Old Masters. His early work, like this cowboy, consists of hyper-realistic pencil drawings, and has been working in a non-figurative style since the mid-1980s. In his abstract work, however, elements from photo-realism, such as working with shadow, can be found. The main visual elements in Morgan’s work are color, shape and light. He uses it to create modern trumpet louils: shapes appear pasted and are deepened by painted shadows. Sometimes there is actually a slight relief.
