Alexandrine Gortmans was Toon Kelder's wife and most important model. Her first paintings were created in 1960 during a visit to the south of France. The nature around Vence, her childhood in tropical Indonesia and life in Paris are her main sources of inspiration. These elements mix in her work, where she uses beautiful blue-green tones to create an effect of melancholy and alienation. After the death of her husband in 1973, Alexandrine Kelder-Gortmans stops painting for good.
