The impressionist Eduard August (Ed) Becht was a pupil of the successful Hague painter Julius van de Sande Bakhuyzen, in whose landscapes mood and atmosphere played a major role. His oeuvre mainly includes landscapes with trees or dune landscapes , both in summer and winter. He was also an avid etcher and friend of the Haarlem art dealer Johannes Hendrikus de Bois, for whom he occasionally wrote texts. He was also an art reporter for 'De Avondpost', in which he described exhibitions of contemporaries.
