Renard was born in Amsterdam and was active in the first quarter of the 19th century. He mainly painted cityscapes of Amsterdam and rural areas. Because many topographical landscape paintings were produced in the second half of the 18th century and the early 19th century, it is often difficult to distinguish the different hands. For example, paintings by Renard were previously attributed to Isaac Ouwater and Jacob Cats. Renard excels in its tree-lined avenues with farms and here and there some figures. Unfortunately, it is unknown where Renard died.
