Ali Goubitz painted highly stylized landscapes and portraits. Initially she lived and worked in Amsterdam and the Gooi, in 1938 she chose Bergen as her place of residence. Partly because of the kinship of her style with that of Edgar and Rachel Fernhout, her work is considered to be part of the new Bergen School. The small, detailed landscapes of this painter were created in her studio on the basis of working drawings that she made in nature and on which she had noted the colors in numbers.
