The painter and photographer Antonie Steinmetz was born in The Hague in 1867 and specialized in painting Dutch landscapes in a free-impressionist style. Around 1924 he settled in Brussels. A canvas such as 'The painting lesson' shows his ability to accurately characterize his subjects.
