The South German painter and graphic artist August Köhler worked as a lithographer from 1895 to 1903, after which he attended the art academy in Stuttgart. During his time at the academy, Köhler traveled twice to Italy (1906, 1912). This artist painted impressionist portraits and figure representations, but became best known for his militaristic scenes. He was a member of artists' societies in Stuttgart and Wurtemberg.
