The Hungarian Aurel Naray is best known for his portraits. With a loose, impressionistic brushstroke he mainly painted women and mothers with children, but he is also known to have painted biblical scenes. Little is known about his life. Naray was born in Budapest, did not have a specific art education and traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. Between 1920 and 1940 he worked in Maastricht. His work is included in the collection of the National Gallery in Budapest.
