In the landscapes of Bernard van Beek, tonality and mood are decisive. He was influenced by the painters of the Hague School and especially by Gabriel, for whom he had great admiration. From 1911 Van Beek moved from Amsterdam to Kortenhoef, where the beauty of the lakes was his main subject. Sometimes he went with his rowing boat to the lakes behind the church to paint water lilies, with or without beds, Kortenhoef in the distance. Of the painter city views are also known.
