Nothing more is known about the Spanish painter César Herrer than that he lived, worked and exhibited in Madrid, Paris and Amsterdam, before settling permanently in Budapest, Hungary. His wanderlust also took him to other countries. For example, he visited the Italian Venice. He must have been enchanted by the sight of the lagoon city: it was the source of inspiration for numerous urban and water scenes, including this atmospheric spring impression.
