Dick Ket is best known as a painter of meticulously painted still lifes and portraits. These appeared after 1930, when due to the effects of a heart condition he was forced to withdraw to his studio. Before then, from 1919 on, he was an ebullient painter, rendering his impressions spontaneously onto canvas in deft brush strokes. He chiefly painted landscapes and cityscapes and often painted outdoors.
