Born in Bergharen in 1901, Dorus Arts is considered one of the late followers of the Hague School, both in terms of his free, impressionist style and his choice of subject. His oeuvre covers almost all favorite subjects of this group of painters: polder landscapes, meadows with cattle and beach scenes with fishermen and barge boats. He also liked to paint forest scenes. His pupils were Jan Schouten and Petran Vermeulen. In 1955 the painter emigrated to Canada.
