The Belgian Edward Tyck painted historical and religious scenes, but was best known for his cityscapes of Antwerp and genre paintings in Impressionist style. These latter works in particular bear witness to a keen observation skills and sense of humour. Tyck also painted landscapes and forest views. He was born in Antwerp in 1847 and lived and worked in this city all his life.
