Genre scenes and portraits, but especially still lifes with poultry, painted in a realistic style, were the specialty of the Antwerp painter Edward Quitton. He also devoted himself to painting landscapes. Quitton was born near Brussels and attended the academies of Tournai (1856-1858) and Antwerp (1859-1861), where he was taught by Joseph Stallaert, among others. After that he lived in Antwerp and England. Quitton exhibited, among other things, in 1892 at the famous exhibition on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Ghent.
