Emmanuel Frémiet was a French sculptor. He learned the craft from François Rude, who worked at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Frémiet initially specialized in sculpting animals, which he depicted realistically and with great detail mainly in bronze. He regularly exhibited his work at the Salon. Frémiet is best known for his gilded equestrian statue of Joan of Arc on the Place des Pyramides in Paris. In addition, the Saint Michael and the dragon at the top of the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel is by his hand. Frémiet's sculptures can be found in the collections of Musée d'Orsay, Muséum National d'Histoire and the Louvre.
