Standing nude
watercolour on paper 49.4 x 32.4 cm, signed l.r. and dated '52

This work on paper was previously for sale.

The very versatile artist Flip Hamers was self-taught, with the exception of some lessons from Loosdrecht painter Dirk Smorenberg. In a strong impressionistic style, with large surfaces and bright, bold colours, he painted cityscapes, figures and portraits, the Loosdrecht lakes and scenes with female swimmers and sunbathers. All this so attractive that he was able to live from his commissions and sales from the early 1930s. In 1940 the painter settled in Kortenhoef. Flip Hamers was very eager to travel and visited Bali, India, Pakistan and the Antilles, among others. After 1945 he often sailed as a guest on navy ships; in 1953 he was co-founder of the Dutch Association of Marine Painters.
