Franciscus Cornelis Knoll was born in Rotterdam and moved to Utrecht at the age of eighteen, where he continued to live for the rest of his life. From 1807 he was a member of the artists' society 'Kunstliefde' there. Knoll was a painter of stable interiors and of hunting- or fruit- and vegetable still lifes. He also painted landscapes with cattle. A number of times he exhibited his work at the Jaarlijkse Tentoonstelling van Levende Meesters (Annual Exhibition of Living Masters), including in Amsterdam in 1820, 1824 and 1826. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has a stable interior of his hand.
