Fridolin Becker is one of the lesser known Hague painters of the second half of the 19th century. He was a student of the genre painter David Bles, attended the academy in The Hague from 1847 to 1850 and then studied in Paris for two years. He specialized in painting genre scenes - often with children, fisher girls, 'Italiennes' and portraits. The painter was a member of Pulchri Studio and worked for thirty-three years as a teacher at the academy in The Hague. In that capacity he taught at C.A. van Waning, J.A. de Jonge and Willem de Zwart.
