Born in 1868, Danish impressionist Fridolin Johansen was a student of the famous landscape painter Vilhelm Kyhn. His studio in Copenhagen was a refuge for young artists who turned away from traditional education at the Academy, which led to the foundation of his 'Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler' in 1882. Under the influence of his teacher, he had a preference for motifs in which light and atmosphere are the central theme. Johansen painted Danish landscapes, cityscapes of Copenhagen, portraits and interiors.
