Versatile artist Guus Boissevain works as a visual artist, graphic artist, cartoonist and illustrator. His free painting is strongly related to his 'applied' work: he depicts his subjects in a sometimes comic and advertising-like figurative style, akin to pop art. As an advertising illustrator, he made a name for himself in the 1950s with the 'Piet Pelle on his Gazelle' campaign for the well-known bicycle manufacturer. Guus Boissevain made many trips abroad, including to Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Turkey, Spain and New York. He also signs with the pseudonym 'Gub'.
