The painter and graphic artist Günter Rackwitz lived and worked in Leipzig all his life. He was trained as a decorative painter, but through continuous study he gradually separated from his craft background. In 1955 he graduated from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. His preference was to paint portraits and landscapes in the changing seasons. According to him, the watercolor technique lent itself best for the latter. In addition to watercolors, graphics and oil paintings, he also made murals in and around Leipzig. In addition, Rackwitz devoted his entire life to teaching children and young adults how to create and interact with art. First in the studio of the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg, then he was in charge of the painting and drawing circle of the Leipzig zoo.
