Painter and watercolorist of landscapes, portraits and still lifes in soft, refined colour nuances. He took a few lessons at the Academy of Ghent, but further formed himself. The exoticism of the 'fin de siècle' can be found in his work and caused the writer Huysmans to notice that his paintings breathed a Japanese atmosphere. This also applied to his portraits and still lifes.
