The Eindhoven resident Harry Maas painted in a somewhat French-oriented, impressionistic style. His smooth touch and his cheerful, bright use of colour radiate painting joy. Maas preferred depicting landscapes. He also painted provocative young ladies in various stages of being naked. In his time this subject was experienced as 'on the edge'; now these paintings give a beautiful image of the time. In addition to the aforementioned genre, landscapes, theater scenes and portraits, Harry Maas also painted scenes in which old steam locomotives and trams play a central role.
