Hendrik Weegewijs learned to paint at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam at the time of August Allebé. He then traveled through the Netherlands and painted in many different places landscapes, village views, peasant interiors and figures. Between 1901 and 1908 he spent a lot of time in Het Gooi. He also regularly painted in Drenthe. His style was smooth-impressionistic, his palette every now and then very colourful.
