Hermann Baisch worked as a lithographer in his father's company when he was introduced to the work of the Dutch Potter and Cuyp and the French Barbizon School in 1868 during a trip to Paris. He moved to Munich, became an apprentice there under A. Lier and developed there into one of the leading plein air painters in Germany. After a visit to Holland, he painted landscapes and cattle in South Germany, but also Dutch beach and seascapes near Katwijk and Volendam and polder landscapes.
