The landscape painter Everardus Rademaker painted in and around his hometown Doesburg all his life, with the exception of the years 1849-1850. During this period, like many other Romantic painters, he made a study trip to Germany. There he also visited Kleve, where he took lessons at the Academy of the landscape painter B.C. Koekkoek.
