Jacobus Frederik Sterre de Jong was an artist of the Laren School. He was born in 1866 and received a solid painter’s education first at the Quellinusschool then at the Rijksacademie. In 1903 he settled in Blaricum, near Laren, where he devoted himself to painting domestic farmhouse interiors and rural scenes with mothers and children. Landscapes and a few portraits by his hand are also known. Sterre de Jong was a member of the Amsterdam artists’ association Arti et Amicitiae. His daughter, M.C.J. Sterre de Jong, also earned a reputation as painter of flowers and landscapes.
