Johannes Hendrik Eversen is best known for his finely detailed still lifes, inspired by those of the old 17th century Dutch masters. He began as a portrait painter but during his training at the Heatherley School of Art in London (1930) discovered the beauty of works by the still life painters Willem Heda, Pieter Claesz and Clara Peeters. The artist dedicated himself completely to ever perfecting the depiction of texture and play of light on the objects he painted. He spent the last forty years of his life in Ede, where he painted a number of landscapes.
